Art Prize
It’s Art Prize Downtown Grand Rapids!
September 20 – October 8
There’s more than 170 venues hosting art during art prize. It can get kind of confusing to keep track of all the art and where to park and where to eat. Here I’ll quick type down some of the top tips to exploring Art Prize.
Download the App:
The app is a one stop shop for voting, finding pieces of art and seeing announcements from the Art Prize organizers. There’s a way to create lists of works that you want to see and to keep track of which ones you have already seen.
Check out their Website:
Check out Art Prizes website to see when there are events and to help plan your visit to downtown. A lot of these functions are available on the app but sometimes using the website is helpful as the images and maps are a little bigger. There’s lots of information on the website about past winners and ways to volunteer for art prize.
Kid Focused Activities:
Art Prize has some great lab spaces and family kits to help the little ones also enjoy a day of exploring art. There’s even some workshops for the kids to make their own art! There’s scavenger hunts and packets with good questions to help keep the younger minds engaged in the art.
Download Yelp!
Yelp is a great tool to have on your phone when you are walking around the city when you want to stop for a bite to refuel. The app will use your current location to bring up restaurants near you. You can see ratings that other yelp users have given places as well as the approximate price rating. Often the menu is attached to the app as well.
Download Trip Advisor
Trip Advisor is a great app for those who are looking for all kinds of things to do in Grand Rapids. Trip Advisor has museums, restaurants and tourist attractions all with ratings and reviews from other people who have visited. This is another great resource for food recommendations as well as other places in Grand Rapids to visit.
Things to Bring:
Don’t forget to pack sunscreen, sunglasses, some cash for parking, a water bottle and comfy shoes to walk around the city. Charge your phone all the way so that you can take some photos of the beautiful art as well as find where the other art pieces are.
Check the Blue Bridge:
Throughout Art Prize they’re going to have live performances on the Blue Bridge downtown. As well as the weekend of the 29th and 30th there will be a music festival near the bridge. Check out this link for more info.
